Next, the high intensity discharge lamps (HIDs) came around. These took a few minutes to reach its maximum capacity, in terms of lighting up an area. These were available in mercury vapour, metal halide and high pressure sodium versions. Over time, LED based lights as well as solar based street lights too evolved, ensuring longevity and a reduction in dependence on electricity grids.
